A friend in my writing group passed this along to me. A bible of sorts for aspiring writers:
In six seconds, you’ll hate me.
But in six months, you’ll be a better writer.
From this point forward—at least for the next half year—you may not use “thought” verbs. These include: Thinks, Knows,…
To ALL writers… This is a REVELATION. Noted : )
I just woke up from a dream that was structured like a 30 Rock episode and felt like a bittersweet, indie, coming of age film; me trying to win back the affections of an old flame and it all took place at a disneyland version of UCLA. Basically I didn’t get the girl, she rejected me in a cold way. Then during the end credits, the sitcom button showed a shot of the girl looking off into the distance in that hopeful cliche way. But at the sametime she looked annoyed so I don’t know if it’s supposed to be optimistic or not. Oh, and Donald Glover played a supporting character who tried to help me on my quest. And now I’m kinda sad. So, what does this dream mean overall? Me and this girl in real life will never date again, at least not anytime soon? I don’t know… Ooh, I’m hungry. BRUNCH!!!

Oh man, incredibly excited to be asked to contribute to NPR’s annual calendar this year. It took a few years after moving here, but for awhile now I have become a WNYC/NPR junkie. Like many New Yorkers, I turn to the radio more and more not just for news, but to learn interesting stuff and, in some ways, find comfort; it always seems to be the voice of reason when you most need it. There is something timeless and magical about listening to the radio and frankly no one does it better than WNYC.
Thoughts printed in the calendar: “NPR is a reliable companion. By nature, radio has a sense of nostalgic romance. Listening late into the night to the unique voices, thought-provoking programming and music gives us knowledge. Many times, public radio has made me think differently, or given me an idea. It nurtures free thinking and innovative dreams.”
Such a fly drawing/photo. And I can’t believe that NPR/KCRW is growing on me. I’m getting old…
When I was in 4th grade I got in trouble for drawing naughty pictures of people doin’ it. A note was written to my parents on how bad I had been and I had to return it signed. Out of shame, I did NOT show this note to my parents & signed it myself. Now that I’m somewhat of an adult I can hold art shows where people come to see the wild fantasias of artists & even pay to collect the works. I learned that bad can be good and you can make a living off it. Here’s to all the bad in life
